Stung Treng hosts indigenous peoples’ day celebration

Minister of Rural Development Chhay Rithisen led a ceremony marking the 32nd International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and the 22nd observance in Cambodia under the theme “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being.”

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism Huot Hak; leaders of the Ministry of Rural Development; representatives of relevant ministries and institutions; Stung Treng Province Governor Sor Soputra; members of the Provincial Council and deputy governors; representatives of organisations and development partners; distinguished national and international guests; local authorities at all levels; teachers, youth and students; and indigenous communities. Around 940 participants attended the event.

The celebration was organised with the following objectives:

1. To join indigenous peoples around the world and indigenous communities in Cambodia in commemorating International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

2. To demonstrate the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to supporting indigenous peoples by improving their livelihoods, preserving their cultures and promoting their rights in line with the National Policy on the Development of Indigenous Peoples.

3. To promote greater awareness of indigenous cultures, traditions, customs and languages, while supporting sustainable development in indigenous communities through the participation and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders.khmertimekh
