Chan Yutha, Secretary of State and Spokesman of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, has advised citizens to “please pay attention to health” as temperatures in Cambodia drop to a bone-chilling 14-15 degrees Celsius in some parts of the Kingdom.

Mr Chan stated that from December 20, the northeast monsoon will begin to increase the influence on the Kingdom of Cambodia, which will make the weather in Cambodia cool down.

He added that the weather will be very cold from December 21 to 24, especially in the mountains and highlands, where the weather can cool down to 14-15 degrees Celsius at night and in the morning.

Mr. Chan said that the provinces with colder temperatures between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius include Mondulkiri, Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Ratanakkiri and Pailin provinces.

Provinces with cooler temperatures between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius include Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Ratanakkiri and Pailin.

In addition, other provinces will have temperatures between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius.

In the face of cold weather in the coming days, Mr. Chan called on people to pay attention to health, especially young children and the elderly.

Mr. Chan stated: “Regarding the cold weather, please pay attention to health, especially children and the elderly must have thick clothing to protect in cold weather, and the other is in remote areas, mostly in the morning or at night.

Fire is often used to warm the body to help prevent cold, so please use the highest care, because this autumn, everything around is dry and prone to flammability.”

Mr. Chan Yutha said that for the autumn in 2023 has arrived similar to last year, and for the cold weather can occur around 3 or 4 times a year.

He said that after the end of the dry season and the dry season will come, the weather will warm up and for the dry season of 2024, the hot weather and that people must be prepared in advance is to save water.

Mr. Chan Yutha said, “I would like to take this opportunity to make more appeals, because at this time we are still affected by the El Nino phenomenon.

Thus, the dry season may have less rain, especially from mid-February to the beginning of the temperature and the temperature starts to get very hot in March and April (March and April).First, the high temperature in the dry season, which causes a lot of evaporation, and second, the rain because we are still affected by the El Nino phenomenon, so the rain may be less than in previous years…the relevant ministries and institutions, local authorities, please take care to maintain the existing water source well, how to avoid pumping, spraying or losing water sources, leading to water shortage in the dry season.”
