Cambodia and the Philippines have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing and expanding their bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including the economy, trade, and security.

The discussion took place yesterday at the Peace Palace, where Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Philippines to Cambodia. The meeting underscored shared dedication to bolstering ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration.

In their talks, both leaders emphasised efforts to increase trade volume and agricultural exports. They also highlighted the importance of boosting the tourism sector by establishing direct flights from Cebu, Philippines, to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Further discussions included strengthening partnerships in education and construction.

Prime Minister Hun Manet and Ambassador Mayo also addressed the ongoing cooperation in defence and security.

They agreed on the necessity of conducting joint military exercises and training as well as intensifying efforts to combat transnational crimes, particularly online scams.

Ambassador Mayo expressed her commitment to enhancing Philippine-Cambodian relations during her tenure. She pledged to work diligently to further deepen the ties between the two nations.

Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador Mayo on her new role and wished her success in her diplomatic mission. He assured her that Cambodia’s relevant ministries and institutions are prepared to collaborate closely with her to foster stronger relationships and cooperation between the two ASEAN countries.
