Prime Minister Hun Manet will lead a Cambodian delegation to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit marking the 35th anniversary of dialogue relations, to be held tomorrow and Thursday in Kazan, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Mr Hun Manet will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Prak Sokhonn, Education, Youth and Sport Minister Hang Chuon Naron, senior government officials and representatives of the business community.

“In celebration of the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations, the Summit serves as an important opportunity to chart the course for further advancing the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership,” it said.

The leaders will exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern, thereby contributing to the promotion of peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

Mr Hun Manet will attend side events and hold several bilateral meetings with leaders to further enhance bilateral and multilateral relations and promote cooperation in areas of shared interest and mutual benefit, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Cambodia and Russia have pledged to expand cooperation in political, economic, educational and cultural fields during a reception marking Russia Day in Phnom Penh on June 11.

The event also commemorated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Russian Ambassador to Cambodia Anatoly Borovik said relations between the two nations are built on friendship, mutual respect and trust.

He added that over the past seven decades, Russia has developed strong ties with Cambodia that have withstood the test of time and shifts in the international landscape, with bilateral cooperation continuing to expand steadily across a wide range of sectors.
