Cambodia celebrated the 30th Arbour Day in Kampong Cham province on July 9, under the royal presidency of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King; Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly; Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister; as well as other senior government officials, foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia, civil servants, and local residents also attended the annual ceremony, held in Kaseithan village, Bos Knor commune, Chamkar Leu district.

In his report to His Majesty the King, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, highlighted the efforts of past and present Royal Governments in strengthening forest land management, promoting conservation, and encouraging reforestation.

He underlined that Cambodia is a leading country in the region and the world in forest conservation, with over 40 percent of its territory designated as natural protected areas. The government, he added, continues to actively promote reforestation initiatives.

On the occasion, approximately 15,000 young trees of rare and valuable species will be planted across a 10-hectare area in Kaseithan village.

Arbour Day was first initiated in 1952 by His Majesty the late King-Father, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk. The event was suspended for many years due to the civil war but was resumed in 1992.

Since then, Cambodia has celebrated Arbour Day annually under the presidency of His Majesty the King, who consistently demonstrates strong commitment to reforestation and the conservation of natural resources.AKP
