Ministry of National Defense: Border situation ‘calm’

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, stated that from midnight until the morning of August 13, the situation along the Cambodian-Thai border in the direction of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces was calm.

Speaking at a press conference on the morning of August 13, 2025, Ms. Maly stated that Cambodian forces have continued to be highly vigilant in fulfilling their duties diligently.

The Ministry of National Defense also rejected Thailand’s claims regarding the case of Thai soldiers stepping on landmines. A spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense stated that Cambodia absolutely does not use new landmines, that Cambodia complies with international treaties and laws by not using anti-personnel mines as alleged by Thailand, and that to date, the Thai landmine case has not been investigated clearly and transparently. Cambodia has always reminded Thailand that the minefield is a war-era minefield that has not been cleared.

Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson: Cambodia is committed to firmly implementing the ceasefire and the 13-point agreement in Malaysia. Cambodia calls on Thailand to respect the ceasefire and the spirit of consensus in the 13-point agreement of the GBC meeting, especially on the points where both sides agreed not to move or move, including patrolling, into the other side’s positions.

Ministry of Defense Spokesperson: Since July 29, after the ceasefire came into effect, our forces have been illegally detained by the Thai military, which has been going on for 15 days now.
