The handover ceremony was attended by Nhep Angkeabos, Director of the National Paediatric Hospital, doctors, and team members of the Union of Youth Federation of Cambodia (UYFC).
The funds were generated by ticket sales from the football tournament “Soccer League” that took place on Monday, as a charity event to support the hospital’s ongoing mission.
Initiated by the UYFC, the football match’s aim is to support ways to save the lives of sick Cambodian children.
On that occasion, Hun Many expressed his pleasure in contributing to raising funds for the hospital which will be used in healthcare to help children.
Angkeabos told Khmer Times yesterday that the money from the football match will be used to purchase medical equipment to meet the needs of the hospital.
“We are still deciding on how to use the money, whether to purchase the electroencephalogram (EEG), a machine to measure electrical activity in the brain, or the lung scanner machine,” he said.
“If possible, we will buy both of them. And any remaining cash we buy other material that is needed for our operations, in order to strengthen the quality of treatments.”
He emphasised that these funds are extremely important for the hospital, as the hospital is constantly evolving in response to the rapid increase in patients and the developments in medicine.
“Skills are constantly improving, which requires new material, and our hospital is adding new equipment every year based on the amount of money we have,” he added.
Angkeabos noted that the number of patients is also increasing annually, and there is not enough hospital beds.
“There is constant growth in terms of the patient numbers. We currently have 400 beds, but some patients need to stay outside of the ward as there is not enough space for all of them,” he said.
The National Paediatric Hospital of Cambodia is a government-run paediatric hospital located in Phnom Penh, and it is managed by the Ministry of Health.
