A delegation of researchers, scholars and reporters from South Asian and Southeast Asian countries visited from April 19 to 20 Pengshui County in Chongqing Municipality to study China’s rural revitalisation strategies.
The field visit is a part of China visit to attend the Stories of CPC: Achievements of Chongqing in Practicing Xi Jinping Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Chongqing and “Global Insight on CPC: CPC’s Role in Advancing Modernisation of the Global South” seminar in Beijing.
The field visit was organised by the China Centre for Contemporary World Studies (CCCWS) to facilitate cross-regional learning on sustainable development.
The delegation visited the Pengshui County Planning and Exhibition Hall, where they learned about the county’s progress in poverty alleviation, eco-friendly industries, and integrated urban-rural development.
The delegations also visited several local enterprises specialising in honey production and Chinese herbs, key pillars of Pengshui’s rural economy.
Representatives from these companies showcased advanced apiculture techniques, organic honey products, and medicinal herb cultivation, emphasising how these industries contribute to poverty alleviation and green development.
Soy Sopheap, Chairman of the Cambodia-China Journalists Association, shared his impression on how community engagement can drive rural prosperity,
“Pengshui’s model of leveraging natural resources for economic growth while ensuring sustainability is highly inspiring,” he said.
The participating scholars, researchers and reporters are from Cambodia, India, Bangladesh, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
The visit precedes the delegation’s participation in the April 23 seminar in Beijing, where scholars will discuss the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) strategies in promoting global development, particularly in the Global South. AKP
