Cambodia, UAE commit to working together to tackle climate change

Climate change is a global issue, and in response to this, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Cambodia is committed to working with Cambodia to address climate change through bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The joint commitment was made during a courtesy call between Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of the Environment, and Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Aldhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Cambodia, on May 16, 2024, at the at the Office of the Ministry of Environment.

The Minister of Environment also thanked the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates for his contribution to solving global problems with the Ministry of Environment and informed them of the strategic plan for the environment, which Cambodia has achieved for the first time to reduce the use of more than 30 million plastic bags per day and continue to expand greenery by planting at least 1 million trees per year in response to climate change for Cambodia to achieve more than 60% forest cover and become a carbon neutral country by 2050.

In line with the Minister, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Cambodia expressed his appreciation and strong belief that the Ministry of Environment will achieve its strategy and will contribute to tackling climate change, which is a global issue with the United Arab Emirates.
