Cambodia’s Tourism Minister Huot Hak met yesterday with Rajiv Raj Jagasia, founder of the Diplomacy for Good Foundation, and his delegation for a courtesy call to discuss a proposed Cambodian–Indian Vishnu statue and the strengthening of bilateral travel ties. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Tourism, focused on a project backed by Indian philanthropists to construct a landmark statue of the deity Vishnu. The initiative seeks to celebrate the shared cultural heritage between the two nations and to serve as a new attraction for religious and cultural tourism.

Jagasia briefed the minister on the foundation’s “tourism diplomacy” efforts, which utilise cultural engagement to encourage more Indian travellers to visit the kingdom. As a gesture of solidarity, the foundation also donated two tonnes of rice to the Ministry to support Cambodian soldiers and displaced citizens.

Minister Hak praised the initiative, noting that the project aligns with efforts to preserve cultural links that have existed for over a millennium. He said that formal diplomatic relations between Cambodia and India have flourished for more than 70 years.

“This project not only contributes to cultural preservation but also acts as a magnet for Indian tourists through diplomatic and cultural engagement,” the Minister said.

Hak urged the foundation to continue promoting Cambodia as a peaceful and secure destination to the Indian public, aiming to further increase the growing number of visitors from the subcontinent.khmerTime
