The U.S. Embassy hosted at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra on July 3 a celebration of the 249th Independence Day of the United States of America.
The event was presided over by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and Ms. Bridgette Walker, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, a.i.
In her remarks, Chargé Walker highlighted American excellence in innovation and opportunity. “The idea and spirit of America have not only shaped my country’s development, but these are also the basis upon which we interact with the rest of the world. We seek partnerships where there are equal chances and opportunities; where there is transparency; and where there is fairness. To achieve these goals, you will find Americans working in every sector everywhere to create relationships and deepen partnership,” she said.
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol represented the Royal Government of Cambodia at the event as the Guest of Honor.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh’s press release AKP received this morning, the event also paid tribute to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of U.S.-Cambodia ties, which began in 1950. Officials, diplomats, partners, and friends of the Embassy explored a historic photo walk recounting the development of bilateral ties and enjoyed food and drinks generously provided by company sponsors.
A brass ensemble from the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific entertained with musical hits from both countries representing decades of the relationship. “Pacific Brass” and the Royal Cambodian Army Honor Guard and Trumpet Unit delighted guests with a joint performance – a celebration of the longstanding friendship between the American and Cambodian people.AKP
