Mr. Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, kicked off his three-day official visit to Timor-Leste at the invitation of José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste.

Hun Sen and his high-level delegation arrived at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili on the afternoon of May 7, upon successfully concluding his three-day working visit to Indonesia.

They were warmly welcomed by President José Ramos-Horta, who then personally drove Hun Sen from the airport to his hotel.

According to the schedule, during his stay in Timor-Leste, the Senate President will meet separately with President José Ramos-Horta, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and Ms. Maria Fernanda Lay, Speaker of the National Parliament.

The Cambodian Senate President is also scheduled to address a special session of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste and deliver a lecture titled “Hun Sen’s Lessons: From Genocide and Poverty toward Freedom and Prosperity” at the Presidential Palace. The event will be attended by members of parliament, government officials, diplomats, students, and representatives of civil society.

In recognition of his significant contributions in supporting Timor-Leste over the past two decades, particularly its journey toward ASEAN membership, Hun Sen will be awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the country’s highest honour.

Hun Sen is accompanied by Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate, members of the Senate and National Assembly, and other senior legislative leaders, as well as officials from various ministries and institutions. AKP
