Saudi Ambassador bids farewell with optimism for Cambodia-Saudi Arabia relations

Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received a farewell courtesy call from Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, upon the conclusion of his diplomatic mission to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Dahlwy on the successful completion of his tenure and commended his invaluable contributions to enhancing the friendly relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia.

Both sides expressed deep satisfaction with the encouraging progress in bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

They underscored the importance of maintaining momentum through sustained high-level exchange visits. In this regard, they recalled with satisfaction the official visit of Mr Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, to Saudi Arabia in December 2024, as well as the official visit of Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council, to Cambodia in July 2025.

The Deputy Prime Minister also recalled his fruitful meeting with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Mar. 18, 2022 during His Highness’s official visit to Cambodia.

Both sides also noted with satisfaction the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Trade Relations between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia last year.

In this context, Ambassador Dahlwy shared plans for a Saudi business delegation from various sectors to visit Cambodia in the near future to explore opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, food security, energy, and other areas. He further reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s plan to establish a resident Embassy in Phnom Penh in the future.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity and tourism, emphasising the potential for direct flights between Phnom Penh and Riyadh.

He further expressed appreciation to the Government of Saudi Arabia for providing scholarships to Cambodian students and hoped that additional scholarships, particularly in science and engineering, would be offered to further support Cambodia’s human resource development, alongside existing religious studies programmes.

The Hanoi-based Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation to H.E. Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and other relevant Cambodian institutions for their close cooperation and support throughout his tenure. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Cambodia and expressed his strong optimism in the prospects of Cambodia-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations.

The Deputy Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Dahlwy and reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to extend the same support and cooperation to his successor to further deepen bilateral ties. AKP
