Five cities and districts win ASEAN environmental awards

Synopsis: Five cities and districts are honoured at the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment in Malaysia, receiving the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Award and certificates for clean land, water, and air. Siem Reap City wins the main ESC Award, while Sihanoukville, Takhmao, Tbong Khmum, and Ponhea Krek receive recognition for environmental cleanliness.

Cambodia has received regional recognition for its environmental efforts, with five of its cities and districts awarded at the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment in Langkawi, Malaysia.

The winning cities and districts were Siem Reap City, Siem Reap province, which received the ASEAN ESC Award 2025; Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk, province, which received the Certificate of Recognition for Clean Land; Takhmao City, Kandal province, which was granted the Certificate of Recognition for Clean Water; Tbong Khmum district, which earned the Certificate of Recognition for Clean Air; and Ponhea Krek district, which was awarded theCertificate of Recognition for Clean Water.

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, with the participation of ASEAN environment ministers and the ASEAN Secretary-General. The Cambodian delegation was led by Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth.

He praised the achievements as a reflection of Cambodia’s strong environmental policies and strategies, guided by Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership and the national Environmental Circular Strategy, which emphasises three pillars of clean, green, and sustainability.

He said Cambodia’s policies prioritise environmental protection, climate change response, and promotion of the green economy, in line with the country’s long-term goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The ministry has implemented several campaigns to improve cleanliness and reduce pollution.KhmerTime
