Caution urged in vicinity of planned Phnom Penh to Kandal bridge

After a long wait, the project to build a bridge across the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers connecting Phnom Penh and Ari Acre, Kandal Province, is gradually starting to move forward.According to a notice from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge project, which runs from Phnom Penh to Kandal province, is being studied in detail to promote the start of construction.

During the study, some navigation routes will be closed to collect samples and conduct experiments, which may cause disruption to navigation.

To ensure the safety of vessels traveling along the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers through the construction site area, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport calls on the public, citizens, operators, and all water transportation companies to increase their attention to driving with great caution to avoid any accidents.

To prevent and avoid this problem, the Ministry recommends following the following guidelines:

1: Reduce vessel speed and drive within the safety space with signs and warning signs.
2: Maintain an adequate safe driving distance of at least 50 meters to avoid the risk of collision when passing through narrow channels or near the study area.
3: Give priority to the project study team and follow the signals and instructions of the water traffic team.
4: Do not allow vessels to anchor, stop, or stay within 100 meters of the study area.
5: Vessels traveling through the study area must navigate according to the designated location.

The bridge across the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers will connect the capital Phnom Penh through the Chroy Changva area to the royal city of Ari Acre

This project can now be considered to be on track. The project is scheduled to officially start in 2025.

The Cambodia-Republic of Korea Friendship Bridge (Night Market-Chroy Changvar, Chroy Changvar-Ari Yaktra) project is planned to use a loan of more than 245 million USD.

The scope of the project is to build two bridges at the locations of “Night Market-Chroy Changvar and Chroy Changvar-Ari Yaktra”, which are cable-stayed bridges, built with 4 lanes, type A/C, with a total bridge width of 27.5 meters and a road width of 22.5 meters, with a median of 3 meters and a sidewalk of 3 meters, and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

* Bridge 1: Crossing the Tonle Sap River (starting from the night market area (old market) across to the other side of Chroy Changvar (near Sokha Hotel), 1.19 km long

* Bridge 2: Crossing the Mekong River, starting from the opposite side of Chroy Changvar (near Sokha Hotel) towards the intersection with Road No. 380, Ari Yaktra City (Kandal Province), is 1.18 km long, and the road connecting to the intersection with Road No. 380 is 1.17 km long.

The project is planned to take 5 years and 2 months (62 months) to implement and 3 years and 9 months (47 months) to construct.
