Cambodia has partnered with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Media Development (AIBD) to host the 20th Asian Media Summit (AMS) in Siem Reap from July 20 to 25, 2025.The summit, themed “Media: Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence and the Way Forward,” will bring journalists from around the world to Siem Reap city, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites.

The Ministry of Information signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AIBD to officially begin preparations for the summit. The MoU was signed by Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, and Philomena Gnanapragasam, Director General of AIBD, at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday.

Tep Asnarith, Spokesman for the Ministry of Information, confirmed that the summit will aim to promote Cambodia’s tourism, cultural heritage, and development, highlighting the country’s peace and progress. The event will include media outlets, keynote speakers, and sponsors from around the world.

Alongside the AMS, the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting, which will involve 26 member countries, will be held, along with a workshop on media development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Asnarith noted that the summit will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences, ideas, and recommendations that will contribute to the development of the media sector and strengthen regional cooperation.

A key topic of discussion will be combating fake news, which is a common challenge in the region. The summit will explore solutions and mechanisms to raise public awareness and ensure peace and socio-economic stability across member countries.

Cambodia previously hosted the 16th AMS at Angkor Wat in 2019, under the theme “Digital Media: Focusing on Market Development.” The event attracted around 600 media representatives from 42 countries.

In 2024, Pheaktra led Cambodia’s delegation to the 19th AMS in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the summit, he called on Asia-Pacific countries to join Cambodia in the fight against fake news and raise awareness on the issue to promote stability and peace.
