Prime Minister Hun Manet is this morning inaugurating the new 845.7 meter Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra bridge over the Bassac River.

The bridge across the Bassac River (Chak Angre Krom – Prek Pra) is the first bridge construction project for the new Royal Government.

The bridge across the Bassac River (Chak Angre Krom – Prek Pra) is a twin concrete bridge with a length of 845.7 meters, starting from the west bank of the Bassac River in Chak Angre Krom, Meanchey district and ending at the east bank of Tonle Bassac located in Sangkat Prek Pra, Khan Chbar Ampov in Phnom Penh.

The twin concrete bridges have a total width of 27 meters, with each bridge having a cross section of 13.25 meters, AC concrete with a surface thickness of 10 cm and a gap of half a meter. Each bridge has 2 lanes for traffic vehicles, 7 meters long lanes, 1 lane for bicycles, 2.5 meters long, 1 lane for pedestrians, 1 meter long lanes, 1.25 meters wide bridge spans.

The safety component is half a meter long and has a cross section for navigation below the bridge of 90 meters x 11.5 meters.

The road connecting the head of the bridge has a total length of 804.3 meters, connecting from both ends of the bridge to the main boulevards in Phnom Penh.

The road connecting the head of the bridge will be built according to the technical specifications, including the road connecting from the west side of the bridge with a length of 379.15 meters and the east side with a length of 425.15 meters will be constructed as a concrete road AC rubber, 9 cm thick, 20 m wide, 27 m wide on the road.

The project also includes the construction of two roundabouts on either side of the bridge and four sidewalks on each side, with a total length of 1,541 meters, paved with reinforced concrete, as well as the construction of two road extensions, including roads. National Road 2, 300 meters long on the west bank and Street 110, 110 meters long on the east bank, to be connected to the bridge and to install traffic signs and diagrams according to road technical standards.

The project will be built by a Shanghai construction company and technically supervised by Guangzhou Wanan Technical Consulting, with a construction period of 42 months to be completed during 2027, with a total budget of 60.2 million US dollars – a concessional loan from the Chinese government, together with the contribution of the Royal Government of Cambodia for the impact of demining, unexploded ordnance and other taxes.

The bridge over the Bassac River (Chak Angre Krom – Prek Pra) is an important strategic project to connect and facilitate people’s travel. In particular, reduce traffic congestion on the Monivong Bridge.

7 bridges across the river in Phnom Penh are currently operating, including: Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge, Chroy Changvar, Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge, Chroy Changvar, Monivong Chbar Ampov Bridge (1st), Bridge Monivong Chbar Ampov (2nd), cable-stayed concrete bridge across the Tonle Sap River, Russey Keo, cable-stayed concrete bridge connecting Koh Nora and Koh Pich development areas and Prek Pnov bridge.
