Schools having majority of Grade A students to get model status

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron said that if students from a particular school show the best results, or score grade A, those schools would be selected to become a model school.

He said that the Ministry has developed a modeling method that focuses on key areas such as school management, learning, and teaching, while also seeking parental support to enhance student outcomes.

“In order to qualify to be classified as a Model School, the majority of students must earn grade A, or if there are 30% of grade A and B students in the school, then it will become a Model School,” he said.

Naron said that if more than 80% and 95% of the total number of students in a school pass the exam, even if they did not earn A, B, or C grades, the ministry will also reclassify their schools as Model Schools.

“In order to encourage other schools to be named as Model Schools next year, the ministry will announce 120 schools as Model Schools,” he said.

He added that this year’s high school examination will evaluate model schools, with the ministry set to announce which schools will be designated as model schools in March or April of next year.

Seum Broem, a representative of the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Education Department Youth and Sports, expressed his delight yesterday over the decision to create new model schools if their students achieve grade A.

He added that in Kampong Chhnang province, 17 schools will be reclassified as model schools, including eight secondary schools, eight primary schools, and one kindergarten to be called model schools.

“I am truly eager to see a school in Kampong Chhnang become a model school, and I hope all students will pass this year’s exam with higher grades,” he said.
