The two-day upper secondary examination has been concluded smoothly. AKP

The upper secondary examination for the academic year 2023-2024 has been concluded smoothly under the principles of law, justice, transparency, and acceptable results and in line with the tenet of “Those who know pass the exam”, said a press release of Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) released on Wednesday evening.

All stakeholders have fulfilled their duties with attention and accountability, with good collaboration from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), the Union of Youth Federation of Cambodia (UYFC), health agents, and the competent authorities, said the source.

The press release continued that the exam centres were well organised and in good order, despite some disturbances due to inclement weather and power cuts at some centres.

Students’ exam papers and related documents will carefully be checked and sent to Phnom Penh for the marking process, added the source.

However, 2,406 candidates (of them 915 female), or 1.76% among a total of 137,040 registered students this year (of them 74,882 female), were absent for the exam. 1,990 or 82.71% of the absent candidates are those who failed the exam previously.

Moreover, 136 candidates had health problems, of them 10 dropped out, 22 students sat their exam in separate rooms, seven were injured in traffic accidents, and 46 invigilators had health issues.

Additionally, five students used phones in the exam rooms, and three students who missed the first day of the exam demanded to sit the test the following day.

The results of this year’s high school exam are scheduled for release on October 30 for Phnom Penh and Kandal province, and the following day for the other provinces.

Last year, some 72.98%, or 98,460 out of 137,412 high school students who registered for the exam, obtained their baccalaureate, of which 1,673 received grade A; 6,964 grade B; 18,303 grade C; 34,246 grade D; and 37,269 grade E. AKP
