During the meeting, Santo Darmosumarto, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, expressed his hope that the relationship between Cambodia and Indonesia, especially people-to-people connectivity, will further enhance.

The Indonesian diplomat also highlighted that Cambodia and Indonesia still have room to expand their cooperation, particularly trade, as their bilateral trade has reached some $1billion.

For his part, Mr Hun Sen expressed his congratulations to Gen. Prabowo Subianto on his recent election victory as the new President of Indonesia and shared some historical facts about Cambodia’s peace process that he had worked with previous Indonesian leaders, as well as good cooperation with Joko Widodo during his office.

Mr Hun Sen also encouraged Indonesia further to boost trade, investment, and agriculture with Cambodia.

Earlier on the same day, Mr. Hun Sen met with Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In the meeting with the Cambodian Senate President, Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra said Mr. Hun Sen is honored and well-respected by the Cuban people. The long-standing friendship bond and healthy relationship between the two countries are strong, with good cooperation in many programs.

The Cuban ambassador also touched on the rice production project initiated by Cambodia for Cuba and said Cambodia and Cuba should have a memorandum of understanding on health and other areas such as culture. She also intends to work with relevant Cambodian ministers to learn more about the potential for the mutual benefits of both countries.

In reply, Mr. Hun Sen expressed profound thanks for Cuba’s precious support and assistance to Cambodia right after the country was liberated from Khmer Rouge’s genocidal regime.

Mr. Hun Sen also expressed his pleasure and recommended that Cuba should learn and use Cambodia’s rice production techniques and experience to apply in Cuba and encouraged the Ambassador to further work with the Ministry of Health for future cooperation. AKP
